NEUROMUSCULAR CASE OF THE MONTH - MAY 2015
Genetic Test now Available for Demyelinating Polyneuropathy in Miniature Schnauzers
A demyelinating polyneuropathy with distinct pathological features was first described in young Miniature Schnauzer dogs in 2008. The paper shown in the abstract below describes the clinical, electophysiological and histopathologic features of this polyneuropathy. Through collaborations with the University of Bristol, the Animal Health Trust, and University College London, the mutation has been identified and a DNA based test is now available to identify clear, carrier and affected dogs (see below and http://www.aht.org.uk/cms-display/genetics_tests.html).
