From the Journals: X-linked Myotubular Myopathy Identified in Rottweiler Dogs

A mutation has been identified in the myotubularin gene that causes X-linked myotubular myopathy in young Rottweiler puppies. This congenital myopathy was first identified in Labrador Retriever puppies and a different mutation in myotubularin has been found in a second canine breed. This myopathy is likely to occur in other canine breeds and clinicians should be alerted to this possibility. A congenital myopathy should be considered in young puppies of any breed with early onset muscle weakness, poor muscle mass and stunted growth (click here to read full paper)
